Surrounded by the love of his family, Reed passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Summit Heights Retirement Home at the age of 94 years. He has been reunited with his parents Frederick and Florence, his loving wife Patricia (2022), with his initial love Rose (1969), his beloved son Ralph (2009), his brother Ralph (1944) and his sister Leta (2007). Reed is survived by his two sisters Jean and Norma. He is the loving father of Mark Simpson (Carol), Fred Simpson (Janice), Tom O’Connor (Cathy), Tim O’Connor (Lynn), and father-in-law of Zuzana. Proud and devoted Grandad to Garyk, Andrew, Matthew, Amy (Justin Weresch), Sarah (Bryan Barrett), Mitchell, and Kaylie, and Great Grandad to Jackson, Bennett, Banks, and Collins. Reed’s love of his family and humourist nature will be forever cherished by his many extended family, and by all of his friends and neighbours at Twenty Place. Our family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and caregivers at Summit Heights Retirement Home for their care and compassion.

Born in Toronto, Reed lived, worked and raised a family in Hamilton. He married Rose in 1954 and had three sons. He married Patricia in 1971 following Rose’s tragic death. With Patricia’s two sons, they set about building the rest of their lives together. Reed had a zeal for dancing and loved nothing more than cutting a rug on Saturday night to the music of the Big Band era. Reed was a proud member of the Hamilton Fire Department, serving over 30 years on the department, and an ardent booster of the city he loved. He was a keen student of history with a special interest in WWII, informed in large part due to the loss of his older brother in 1944.
