It is with profound sorrow and much love, that we announce the passing of John Burjaw, age 83, of Mount Hope - husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
John is survived by his wife, Audrey (married 63 years); and children, Michael (Leyland), Jeff (Deb), Jenny (Jeff); grandchildren, Emily (Veronica), Andrew (Christine), Taylor (Tess), Yiorgos (Alicia), Morgan (Abbey), Luca, Marco, Elisabeth, Tyler, Tosca, Brady; great-grandchildren, Aurelia and Isla; as well as his beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends.
John was an exemplary husband, father, grandfather and human being. He embodied life's best qualities: unconditional love, generosity, honesty, integrity and the best sense of humour. Right to the end, he found a way to make others laugh.
John loved his family dearly. His wife, children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He was an amazing father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He touched the lives of so many people. He will truly be missed and will never, ever be forgotten. His legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
John was a member of the Hamilton Fire Department for 33 years. He loved his career as a firefighter and served his community with pride. He loved the camaraderie that he had with his fellow firefighters. Especially, playing practical jokes and cooking syndicate meals. In 1992, John retired. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends. John also enjoyed cottage life, fishing, playing cards, listening to music, puttering in the garage, reading, cooking and gardening.
The family wishes to thank the medical staff that was involved in John's care at the Juravinski Cancer Centre: Dr. Sur, Dr. Shaw, Dr. Slaven, nurses, as well as all of those who provided care at his home. and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life, which will be held at The Villages of Glancaster Country Club (1000 Silverbirch Blvd, Mount Hope), on Saturday, April 27th, from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Please come share some food, fond memories and laughter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to organizations John felt strongly about, such as: Heart & Stroke Foundation and Juravinski Cancer Centre.
