Gordon Peter Selinger, known to everyone as Gord, passed away on
May 17, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
He was 68 years old.
Born on June 19, 1957, in Hamilton, Ontario, Gord grew up with a strong work ethic and a quiet determination that defined his entire life. He built a proud 30-year career as a firefighter with the Hamilton Fire Department, dedicating years of service to protecting his community before retiring. It was the kind of work that suited him perfectly, demanding both toughness and heart, two things Gord had in abundance. Gord was happiest doing things his own way. A true do-it-yourselfer, he could almost always be found tinkering in his garage, fixing, building, or figuring out how something worked. He loved the outdoors just as much, spending countless hours fishing and hunting whenever he got the chance. But nothing brought him more joy than time spent with his grandchildren, who had a way of softening that famously grumpy face of his. Anyone who knew Gord knew that his gruff expression was really just his version of a smile. If you asked him how things were going, the answer was almost always the same: "Just Ducky." Gord is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Susan Selinger, who never left his side through it all. He is also survived by his sons, Daniel (Jennifer) and Trevor (Alecia); his brother, Gary; and his cherished grandchildren: Matthew, Hannah, Nathan, Kennedy, and Hudson. He will be deeply missed by all of them and by the many friends and colleagues who were lucky enough to know him. Cremation has taken place at Tallman Funeral Homes. A Celebration of Life will be held at Little Barn Co., 1923 Seventh Street Louth, St. Catharines, on Sunday, June 21st, from 12 to 4 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to come together, share stories, and remember Gord the way he would have wanted, surrounded by the people he loved.
